Welcome to the Morrison House
MORRISON HOUSE IN THE
PAST
MORRISON HOUSE IN THE
FUTURE

Following are the reflections of two students from the 2/3 classrooms at Dr. Morris Gibson Elementary school after visiting the Morrison House as it exists today:

One day I was at my house and my mom said "do you want to go to the Morrison house?" I got on my bike and rode to the Morrison house. I got off my bike and went to explore the garage but I couldn't because it was getting painted and we would make marks on the floor. I rang the doorbell. I waited a couple of minutes and somebody came to the door. They invited me in. So I took off my boots, hung up my coat and went in. They only had two chairs in the living room because they had just moved in. The owner told me the story about the first people who lived in the house. Mrs. Tucker loved wallpaper. She would wallpaper over wallpaper. Now the new owners have to work really hard to strip ten layers of wallpaper off one wall. That will be a lot of work.

From the room with all the wallpaper, we walked into the kitchen. There was a neat container stuck to the wall with wax paper, tinfoil and plastic wrap in it. There was a big old stove with a pipe that stuck out of it. Off the kitchen, there was a cool room that was actually cold. There were shelves to store things on. Then we went to explore the basement. It had a really low ceiling. You actually had to duck under a low pipe that stretched from one side of the basement to the other. It was kind of creepy because it had holes between the bricks.

We went back upstairs. We went into the small bathroom. There was a sink, toilet and a cool bathtub with a curtain around it.

It will be fun to see the house when it is all repainted by the new owners. When I decided to leave the Morrison house, I thought that it would be a good idea if I walked around the outside of the house to see what it looked like. I saw red shingles and a screen door. I wondered if it had always been there. In the past, I don't think that they would have put up a screen door because they probably didn't have screens then. Still thinking about this, I decided to leave.

As I was reading my interesting history book a great idea came to mind.

I will go to the Morrison House to discover what it looks like today. Immediately I went to ask my Mom if she could drive me downtown. When I finally arrived at my destination, I carefully studied the house. I got up some courage and rang the doorbell. I was welcomed inside by a very friendly lady.

Inside I saw a living room with comfortable looking polished furniture. The walls were painted a baby blue color and the carpet was obviously new. There was no one in the living room. As I entered the next room, I discovered it was a bedroom. There was a waterbed and a TV beside the closet. The walls were a calm white color with chips of pink. There was a spotted dresser in one corner with many toys on top. The toys were boy toys.

Next I decided to explore the bathroom. It had a Jacuzzi bathtub, a toilet, sink and counter all painted a pale purple color. On the counter there were lots of bottles of sweet smelling creams. There was no carpet but a cheerful mat in the middle of the floor. There was also a big plant in the corner making the room look alive, almost like a jungle.

The next room to investigate was the kitchen. I smelt pastries like cookies, cakes and muffins. I thought the owners of the house were having a party! Not only did the food smell good but the room made me feel at home. The sun streamed through the open window. The flowered wallpaper makes the room and brightens the day. The white fridge dominated the room. It even had an ice maker in it. The stove had a microwave on top. It was hard to leave this warm, cozy great smelling room.

The next room was the attic, I climbed the ladder that fell from the ceiling! As I climbed up the ladder and there I was in the attic. I decided to explore. The attic was way different than I expected! It had 2 rooms, in one room there was a game board that someone didn't finish. I wanted to go to the next room but I decided to finish the game first. It did not take me that long to finish it. In the next room it was empty. There was nothing there. So I went back downstairs to the last room of the house, I had yet to explore. It was the family room. A fire was blazing in the big brick fireplace. There was a T.V., a bigger T.V. than usual. The whole Morrison house was warm and inviting. A home I would like to have for myself. I wonder what it will look like in the future?
