Following are the reflections of two students from the 2/3 classrooms at Dr. Morris Gibson Elementary school after visiting the Mahon House as it exists today:

Dear Sandra:

Today I walked past the old Mahon House. I could see that the shiny balcony was really well taken care of so I decided to ring the gorgeous doorbell. A sweet old lady answered the door. She let me in to explore the house. As I entered the back door I stepped into a sweet smelling kitchen. It was a very modern kitchen. The stove and the fridge were creamy white and the microwave matched. There was a shiny golden stand in the corner with a small TV on top. As I stepped through the doorway I found myself in the wonderful living room. In the smallest corner there was a chair. It had a fuzzy blue blanket neatly folded and hung over the edge. The chair was very comfortable when I sat gently down in it. From the comfortable seat I could see the couch across from me. It was a red velvety couch. It had two matching pillows, one on each end. Like Goldilocks I had to go try the couch too. As I sat down, I sank deeply down into the cushions.

Then I saw some stairs so I decided to go up. When I got to the top I found myself in a long hallway. I walked through one of the doorways and there was a double bed and two dressers, one on either side of the bed. I lay down on the bed and immediately discovered that it was a squishy waterbed. As soon as I got off of the bed I entered the next room. This was a bathroom. There was a rather ordinary sink and a bathtub that was a creamy vanilla white. I also saw a sparking clear mirror. It must have just been polished. I walked through a door and found a whole bunch of old boxes and junk so I guessed I must be in a storage room. I decided to give the people who lived there a nice surprise. I cleaned up the storage room. I put the junk in the boxes and vacuumed the dust away. When I was sure I was completely finished I went down stairs and found the family sitting on the comfortable couch. I sat down next to the sweet lady and thanked her very much for letting me explore. I told them about the surprise they would find in the storage room. With a huge hug I was walked to the door and I told them I would come back again.

As I walked up to the Mahon house with my family I felt happy and excited. I rang the doorbell. A polite lady answered. She asked us if we would like a fun tour around her house. She took us into the living room and then she showed us the beautiful bedroom. She took us out side and I felt the wet soil and the rough trees. I felt the leaves on the bushes. We went back inside and she showed us the rest of the house. It was really neat when she showed us the basement because she had lots of old stuff and they were really neat. Then she showed us the old horse stuff like saddles and reigns because there used to be horses living in the basement.
