Welcome to the Baptist Church

BAPTIST CHURCH IN THE PAST
BAPTIST CHURCH IN THE FUTURE

Following are the reflections of two students from the 2/3 classrooms at Dr. Morris Gibson Elementary school after visiting the Baptist Church as it exists today:

One great, bright, sunny Sunday, my great grandma and I decided to go for a walk to the Baptist Church. When we got there it looked different that before. We immediately noticed that the tower was gone. We looked at the sign that said open until 2:30. I looked at my watch. It was 1:00. We could go in. Excitedly we walked in. It looked newer inside because of the flowers and the birdbaths that stood beside the door.

I asked my grandma if we could ask the lady if I could go in the basement. So I asked the lady. Gently I walk down the creaky stairs. Suddenly I see a rainbow of flowers. It smelled great. I walked through another door. This time I smelled candles. This time I saw many pretty jelly candles. The candles smelled minty. Then I went upstairs to look around. I was too late. The lady was closing the store. I asked my great grandma if we could come back tomorrow. She was going to be busy but I am sure we will visit again some day.

As I walked into Bowker and Scudds I heard cash registers ringing, birds merrily chirping and people chatting. I saw beautiful jazzy new flowers, sparkly metallic lawn ornaments, colorful candles and brilliant cloth patterns. I felt the cool glassy windows, the clammy feel of the air, the smooth feel of the soft flower petals and could almost feel the cold wet soil. I smelled the perfume smell of the candles, the aromatic smell of the classy flowers. As I wonder around I reach for a flag to find this beautiful sunshine smiling down on me. Then I saw a watering can that was metallic with a heart on it. Suddenly, I heard a water fountain. I went over to touch the shiny water. I saw a stone bird bath. I went over very carefully to it. I touched it. It was very rough. As I walked out of Bowker and Scudds I felt like I had walked out of a beautiful garden. The building once was a church and now it is a garden store, how wonderful.
