The Iron
Following is a story by four students from the 2/3 classrooms at Dr. Morris Gibson Elementary school.  This artifact belongs to the family of the author, however it could have been found in the General Store in the past.

My Grandma sent a box full of antiques back from Manitoba with my Dad. The iron was one of the things that was in the box. The iron is made of metal and wood and it is very old and heavy. This iron was around before electricity was invented. To use it, people had to put it on a hot belly stove to warm it up. Because there was no electricity, they had to get the iron hot using the stove. A lot of ladies got together to iron so that they would have lots of

irons. They needed lots because the irons got cold quickly and they had to have hot ones waiting. These irons are different from irons today because they don't have plugs. Today we only need one because the electricity keeps it warm.
