Linking the fundamental purpose of the inquiry with curriculum ...ICT:Students will learn to retrieve information and images from primary sources to uncover the truth behind the extinction of the Beothuk. Students will also use email to contact archeologists at Memorial University in Newfoundland to determine latest research concerning the Beothuk. Students will create a web site complete with voice narration to advance a position related to the novel River Run by Peter Such. Students will submit electronic versions of their assignments to the teacher. Students will work collaboratively to share files and information over a network as they produce their web pages. Students will make audio and video recordings of their debates in order to share and improve on their presentation and debate skills. Linkages with Program of Studies: ICT Curriculum Communicating, Inquiring, Decision Making and Problem Solving Foundational Operations,Knowledge and Concepts Processes for Productivity English Language ArtsStudents will examine the notion of perspective as they undertake to study Peter Such's novel River Run. Students will find evidence that supports a theme. Students will advance a position through narrative, images and details from the novel. Students will use oral communication to advance their position on the plight of the Beothuk in a debate. Students will discuss the parts of the novel that addresses and intrigues them with members of their seminar group. Students will self assess their performance and articulate their achievement to interested stakeholders. Linkages with Program of Studies: English Language Arts Curriculum Social StudiesStudents will come to understand that all history is a story told from somebody's perspective. Students will investigate the plight of the Beothuk people from multiple perspective. Students will use evidence and examples from primary and secondary sources to advance an argument. Linkages with Program of Studies: Social Studies Curriculum Responsible citizenship is the ultimate goal of social studies. The responsible citizen is one who is knowledgeable, purposeful and makes responsible choices. Basic to the goal of responsible citizenship is the development of critical thinking. The inquiry process, communication, participation and technological skills are emphasized in order to foster critical thinking. Citizenship education is based on an understanding of history,geography, economics, other social sciences and the humanities as they affect the Canadian community and the world. Current affairs add considerably to the relevance, interest and immediacy of the material and help to foster lifelong learning skills. Social 10 emphasizes the study and appreciation of Canada and the forces and events that have influenced Canada's development. |
