Coyote story

Martin says: I think that extinction means animals that never come back. They have all died, like the saber ooth tiger. The saber tooth tiger died because it was hunted. Cougars came from saber toothed tigers. Endangered means that we are running out of some animals. We are running out of eagles because of the pollution in the sky. Eagles haven’t always been around, God created them.

Martin asks: I am studying the eagle. I know where the eagle lives, what it eats and that it is endangered but I don't knw why it's endangered. Can you tell me why the bald eagle is endagnered?

Martin says: I decided to draw an eagle because it is cool and it is endangered. It is endangered because people use to poison the air which poisoned the eagles.

Ms. R-M replies: Dear Martin, I can think of many other birds and animals that have been hurt because of the chemicals that humans use to help them solve a problem or to do a job. Sometimes, at the beginning, people don't always understand that what they are doing can hurt or change the environment. Often, though, people think that their work or the problem to be solved is more important than how it might affect the environment. Can you think of a time that you saw someone do something that helped them but not the earth? Ms. R-M  

Martin replies: Hi Ms. R.M I once saw a guy throw a cup out the window while he was driving. This helped him but not the environment.
