Glenn says: Extinction is when the animals are dead. The dinosaurs died because of an asteroid. The birds at that time didnt die. I know this because there are still birds today so they couldnt have died when the asteroid hit. Endangered means there is a tax coming. Animals have enemies like the t-rex, allasaurus and the raptors. Today the enemies include hunters, dogs and wild cats. Buffalos are endangerd as well as birds, mice and sometimes snakes. Glenn asks: I am studying snakes and I want to know if snakes evolved from lizards. Do you know? Sean Bell replies: As far as we understand them, snakes did indeed evolve from lizards. They are still so similar that together they are placed together in a group we call Squamata. I have seen other hypotheses that snakes may actually be somehow closer to Mosasaurs, one of the groups of large marine reptiles present in the Cretaceous (late dinosaur period). On the other hand, true mosasaurs are just highly adapted lizards anyway. But whichever it might be, that's about as close as we know--there isn't, as far as I've seen, a whole lot of early snake fossil material, making it sort of hard to identify origins. |
